ENDURING PRE The coyote now inhabits most of Pennsylvania. Expect it to become more visible in the future. I T'S HARD for some of us to believe Pennsylvania is home to thousands of coyotes. Few of us have seen one. Yet, with each passing year, their visibility is increasing. Hunters for years have reported their presence is growing in Penn's Woods. Farmers, too, have noticed the trend in their fields and pastures. And for years, it was mostly a rural thing. 2 But now coyotes are becoming more noticeable in suburbia, even around Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. The buildup didn't happen over a few years. It spans more than six decades. Today, coyotes maintain a stable statewide population and most wildlife managers who study them believe they're here to stay.
