The first day of the 2008 firearms deer season found Deputy John Williams and me on patrol covering the 340 square miles of my district. Hunting pressure was heavy, which is usual for western Crawford County. This district, with its abundant JULY 2015 farms and state game lands, is home to good numbers of deer and some really nice bucks. We'd been on patrol since before daybreak and had already checked several successful hunters. With the snow-covered landscape the deer hunters were going to have a good day.
