Wildlife Conservation Officer
Deputy of the Year
J
OHN (JACK) P. KASONY worked more than 590 hours and logged more
than 9,000 miles in 2015 while performing the duties of a deputy wildlife
conservation officer in western Erie County and the surrounding districts.
Deputy Kasony's law-enforcement efforts are second to none. He has an
excellent working knowledge of game law and applies it on a regular basis.
During 2015, Jack investigated or assisted in 24 cases that resulted in citations.
Jack has the remarkable ability to take a bad situation and calm down everyone
involved, even after citations have been issued.
Jack has always taken on any job that I've assigned him. He is my first choice
to take on any task in my absence, which says a lot about his character.
As a former Game Commission Farm/Game Manager, Jack is well known
throughout the district. Landowners often call him directly to report violations
or problems that are occurring on their properties. Jack always presents himself
in a professional manner and represents the Game Commission to the utmost.
He is always on the lookout to sign up property in the Safety Zone and HunterAccess programs.
Jack works every year at the Erie Sports Show and the Erie County Youth
Field Day event. He also takes care of some of the not-so-pleasant parts of
the job. He removed 43 injured or dead deer from roads last year, and either
disposed of them or issued a permit so the deer could go to a family in need.
Jack attends all monthly deputy meetings and scheduled training conducted in
the Northwest Region. He often attends U.S. Border Patrol intelligence meetings
to interact with other local, state and federal law-enforcement agencies.
Deputy Jack Kasony's professionalism, and his devotion to duty, his
community, and the Game Commission are unparalleled. He truly deserves the
2015 Outstanding Deputy Wildlife Conservation Officer of the Year Award for
the region.
