STUDENT AIR RIFLE PROGRAM
EXPANDS TO PENNSYLVANIA
The Student Air Rifle Program (SAR) - a
student shooting-sports initiative similar to
the National Archery in the Schools Program
(NASP) - has expanded to Pennsylvania,
and the Pennsylvania Game Commission is
asking schools to consider joining up.
"Our National Archery in the Schools
Program is growing exponentially, and the
interest in target shooting is increasing,
as well," said Todd Holmes, Pennsylvania
Game Commission Shooting Sports
Outreach Coordinator. "The Student Air Rifle
Program offers a structured curriculum the
Pennsylvania Game Commission is pleased
to offer for interested schools."
SAR uses school-aligned units of study
and standardized equipment to facilitate an
introduction to the lifetime sport of target
shooting to school-aged youth in grades 4
through 12.
"Schools currently participating in NASP
will find an easy transition to SAR," Holmes
said. "Teachers are provided instructor
training at no cost, and training covers all
information needed for a teacher to offer
SAR in their school. The equipment is solid,
yet easy to use providing a safe and fun
introduction to target shooting. We are
excited about the opportunity to partner
with the SAR."

descriptions, site preferences and benefits.
Those species available are:
buttonbush, graystem dogwood, Northern
bayberry, ninebark, chokecherry, common
elderberry, arrowwood viburnum,
Washington hawthorn, black walnut,
black locust and black-gum.
Many of the seedlings offered for sale
can be purchased at a discounted price.
Orders of 12 or more total units qualify
for applicable discounted pricing. With
the discount, prices are as low as $5.50
per unit. Regular price ranges from $7.50
to $9.50, depending upon the seedling
species.
Species that qualify for the discount
are marked on the order form.

Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.
to 3:30 p.m. Orders can be placed by
telephone, as well.

PLEASE REPORT YOUR DEER HARVEST
With the deer seasons coming to a close, the
Game Commission is issuing one last reminder to
hunters to report any and all deer harvests from
the 2018-19 seasons.
By law, harvests must be reported within 10
days. But those who miss the deadline and report
late will not be prosecuted.
"While all successful deer hunters should remain aware of their legal obligation to report deer
harvests, and understand the benefit of submitting
their harvest reports to the agency, there are going

to be times when hunters simply forget," Game
Commission Executive Director Bryan Burhans
said. "But the agency still is compiling deer harvest
reports from the 2018-19 seasons, which means
there's still time for every hunter who was successful to report."
Harvests can be reported online at the Game
Commission's website, www.pgc.pa.gov by clicking
on the Report a Harvest icon on the homepage.
Reporting online is the quickest and most costeffective way to report a harvest.
