180 S PANNING more than 11,500 acres, State Game Lands 180 in Pike County offers a bounty of wetlands, the jewel of which is the 909-acre Shohola Marsh. This game lands is a waterfowl haven that's managed extensively for migrating ducks and geese, but the many and diverse hunting, trapping and recreational opportunites make it a remarkable draw for people, too. Using federal Pittman-Robertson funds, the Game Commission in 1940 purchased the first parcel of this game lands for $4 per acre. The largest parcel - 8,352 acres - was purchased in 1958 and smaller parcels have been added since. State Game Lands 180 largely is surrounded by public land, including State Game Lands 116 and Delaware State Forest. Shohola Marsh is one of two sites the Game Commission used to reintroduce bald eagles to Pennsylvania. The remains of the hacking tower still stand there. 54
