169 Located about 17 miles southwest of Carlisle, the more than 2,513-acre State Game Lands 169 in Upper Mifflin and Hopewell townships, Cumberland County, offers diverse wildlife habitat supporting a number of different species, which translates into a wide variety of opportunities for those who visit. State Game Lands 169 features 17 impoundments that provide a vital stopover for migrating waterfowl and other water-loving birds, including bald eagles and ospreys. The largest is 22 acres with deep waters, but the smallest is shallow and less than an acre. This variety provides hunting for both dabbling and diving ducks. Most of the impoundments on the game lands also play a role in propagation of waterfowl and other birds, and are closed to the public from March 1 to June 15 to permit uninterrupted nesting. Once they reopen, many provide recreational fishing. 50
