BY BOB FRYE GOOD GRIEF Sometimes blessings come in the form of missed opportunities. Take the buck Tim Robson didn't get on the final Tuesday of the 2020 archery season. Missing out on it led him to the deer he did harvest. And what a deer that second one was. Robson killed it that same day, as evening approached. It was a fabulous 8-point large enough to qualify for the Game Commission's record book. It was just his third archery buck and by far his biggest. But he might never have gotten it except for a lost chance. Robson, who lives in Bradford County, was hunting a farm near home that's owned by his wife's extended family early on the morning of Nov. 17. It was archery season's seventh week, which was just added to the hunting calendar last year. It's a potentially exciting time. That final week allows hunters to chase whitetails during the peak of the rut. That doesn't mean the pickings are easy. Far from it, in fact, especially if you're hoping to connect with one particular deer. Randomness rules. " There is no way to predict buck movement during the rut, " said Jeannine Fleegle, a biologist in the Game Commission's Deer and Elk Section. " There is no BLESSINGS IN DISGUISE NOVEMBER 2021 27
