Basic COYOTE TRAPPING By Freddie McKnight The coyote still was somewhat a novelty when I saw my fi rst in Pennsylvania in the late 1980s. I wanted to trap one like nothing else. It took me four years, but back then there weren't nearly as many coyotes as there are today. Still, what I learned in that span was essential to my success, and gave me a lot to work with in bringing my next coyote to a set. And that knowledge applies just as much today as it did back then. THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT Having the right gear for the job is important in any outdoor pursuit. But in coyote trapping, it can mean the diff erence between catching one or having a trap pulled apart.
