BY B R I A N SA LG A D O Vertically integrated manufacturers are becoming harder to find in the United States as many companies outsource to overseas fabricators to reduce costs. US Pole, however, handles all of its processes in-house out of Palmdale, Calif., and CEO and President Joe Straus is proud to be able to compete in an industry dominated by large public competitors, very few of which actually manufacture their outdoor product line. “We do everything here, and we are competitively priced,” Straus says. “Not only that, but because we control the manufacturing process we can modify fixtures and do special projects, unlike those competitors who buy from China or Mexico. Those countries are not equipped to modify product.” Founded in 1984 in Sun Valley, Calif., US Pole has been manufacturing outdoor lighting for almost 30 years. The company started in a 2,400-square-foot facility before purchasing its own sand cast aluminum foundry.
