Question
Do the basic questions that
you have to do. Once you're done
with the stock answers and their
humble-brags, throw this into
the mix to see how they think on
their feet.
"A customer comes in and
orders a pizza and a soda. The
bill comes out to $11.23 and they
give you a $20 bill. How much
change do you owe them?"
I've seen full-ride college
grads get flummoxed on this. This
isn't about getting the answer
right. If they tell you $8.77
super fast, then they are logic
orientated, good at math and
utilize the left side of their brain.
Many of my best employees
got the answer wrong at first
and kept trying until they got it
right. They said $9.77 at first and
then readjusted, avoided getting
flustered until they got it right.
Some also gave up, and I knew
not to hire them as a result.

WHY IT WORKS: Every March Great Scott's owner Scott Chapman
publishes this advertisement in his local newspaper. It's upside down
on purpose. People take photos of it and send it to the company and it
looks wrong but is so right. The simple "mistake" allows the reader's
eye to go straight to the ad.
