My PKD Story
I was diagnosed with
PKD in April 2019
when I was 31. I was
experiencing urinary
issues, so I was referred to
a urologist by my family
doctor. The urologist
ruled out cancer and
scheduled a CT scan of
my kidneys and bladder,
which revealed that I am
in the fi rst stage of PKD.
My mother had PKD, so it
was defi nitely something
I suspected.
MY BIGGEST CHALLENGE
is keeping myself from bad
thoughts. I sometimes let
the fear of future symptoms
get to me and allow myself
to fall into these pits of
negativity. But posting and
sharing on social media has
helped me keep my mind
in check.

MY ADVICE
Ask all the questions. Don't
be afraid to bring something
up with your doctor, even if you
think your question doesn't
make sense.
Find groups or online
communities of others with
PKD. That was one of the very
fi rst things I did, and it helped
so much. Even if you just join to
read the stories and experiences,
it really does provide a sense
of community.
Try not to dwell on sadness
and fear. I call that " the ugly
side of PKD. " It's so important
to embrace positivity as much
as possible.
