My PKD Story
I have known about PKD
being in my family tree
since I was a teenager. Sadly, I've
seen PKD take the lives of three
close relatives. My grandfather
passed away at age 36, my
uncle at age 62, and my mother
at age 58.
I started raising money for
the PKD Foundation shortly
after my Uncle Warner passed.
It was my way to pay tribute to
him. It was a small fundraising
effort, but it sparked my desire
to start a 5K to raise more
money and awareness. So I created
the Jackrabbit Jog 5K Run
and 5-Mile Run in 2016, held on
Memorial Day. Right before our
inaugural run, my mom passed
away, and so I dedicated the
race to her memory. Since our
first race, we have raised more
than $20,000, and we just had
our seventh running.
I've also run the Chicago
Marathon for Team PKD four
times. Several people at the
race have asked me what the
PKD on my race singlet means.
That gives me a platform to
educate them and share how
important it is that we find a
cure for this disease.

MY ADVICE
Fight the good fight,
whether that's educating
yourself and others about
PKD, through financial support
to help spread awareness
and hopefully get us
closer to a cure, or living
with this insidious disease
and not letting it steal
your joy.
Find creative ways to
raise money and awareness.
In the end, we all have
a responsibility to help end
this disease.
