country outside New York, made visiting the district a showstopper with a glittery 20-foot LeD chandelier suspended over
euclid Avenue and east 14th Street.
meanwhile, the Indians hit a home run with this season's renovation of Progressive Field. With a two-story bar in right field, an
expanded kids play area, and a monument park in center field,
watching the Tribe feels like a whole new ball game. Firstenergy
Stadium, the home of the browns, has also undergone extensive
renovation.
The cleveland metroparks-a more-than-23,000-acre ribbon
of green that includes 18 parks, 300 miles of trails, and an awardwinning zoo-took over edgewater Park in 2013. Located just
west of downtown, the lakefront park has received a sunny makeover with freshly combed sand, volleyball nets, and a Thursday
night summer concert series and food truck meet-up.
It's not only the parks that are getting greener. outside the
iconic Terminal Tower and Horseshoe casino cleveland, a $32
million facelift to Public Square is under way to create a vast
event lawn, speakers' terrace, café, and splash zone in a unified
10-acre space once bisected by major downtown roadways.
"We're excited to see the new Public Square, as well as all the
amenities and events it will offer visitors and residents," says
Lindsey Kelly, regional bus coordinator for Horseshoe casino
cleveland. "It will be a beautiful addition to the
heart of the city."
With its more than 1,600 slots, nearly 100 table
games, a World Series of Poker room, and a grand
buffet that stretches longer than the city's 51-year
championship drought, Horseshoe helped get
the redevelopment dice rolling when it opened
in the former Higbee's department store building in 2012. In fact, more than $5.5 billion has
been invested in downtown cleveland since 2009, according to
Team Neo, the region's economic development agency. That
has added a feet-on-the-street energy as historic buildings are
turned into downtown apartments that remain nearly 98 percent
occupied, according to the Downtown cleveland Alliance.
While locals know better than to scoreboard watch, the points
in cleveland's favor are starting to pile up. It ranked among The
New York Times' 52 Places to Go in 2015 and Travel + Leisure's
best Places to Travel in 2015 and also made an appearance as one
of 25 can't-miss travel spots on the Fodor's Travel Go List 2015.
"The city is vibrant," says Sharrona burns, director of sales at
the rock Hall, which underwent its own $6.9 million renovation in 2012.

These days, the rust belt city, previously known more for its
civic and sports disappointments, is on a hot streak with a lively
arts scene, James beard Award-winning chefs at restaurants
on happening east Fourth Street, and a chorus of feel-good
vibes. basketball star Lebron James returned home to cleveland
with a Sports Illustrated love letter to the city and his fans, a
10-story-tall Nike banner across from Quicken Loans Arena,
and a trip to the NbA Finals for the cavaliers. The city beat out
Kansas city, Denver, and Dallas to host the republican National
convention (rNc) in July 2016. And in 2017, AbA will hold its
annual marketplace in this headlining destination.
"We've been the underdog for a long time," says David Gilbert,
president and ceo of Destination cleveland, the cvb for
cuyahoga county. "but I love when we're the underdog and we
win." (Insider's tip: "#ThisiscLe" is the city's hot mantra, one
that the cvb is promoting.)
Look south from the rock Hall's lakefront vantage point,
and there's proof of the elephant-sized development that has
c-Town trending well in public opinion polls. The shell of a
32-floor Hilton hotel, expected to be complete before the rNc
arrives, rises against the city skyline. It will serve the new $465
million cleveland convention center and Global center for
Health Innovation, which both opened in 2013.
A few blocks away, the long-vacant Ameritrust complex was
transformed into a 156-room metropolitan at the 9, along with
luxury apartments, a restaurant, nightclubs, and a grocery store
housed under a glorious stained-glass rotunda. It joins a host of
