there is so much thrown at you,
but you adapt over time and
learn to focus on key information. You also quickly learn that
far more than last-minute
studying is required. In
addition, we had sessions
where we learned how to ask
patients the right questions
and take their blood pressure
- all within 15 minutes.
The best part is that you're
not alone and there are nine
other cohorts you can rely on
for help, in addition to the
learning specialist dedicated
to your personal success.
We were also given the
opportunity to shadow doctors
at Wesley Community Center
and Estrella Jail, helping us
gain better insight on how a
physician works in a realworld setting.
How has this experience
enhanced your plans? It

helped me immensely by
making me not only a better
learner, but also a teacher. I
learned to better express my
aises.org

thoughts, academically and
professionally. I became more
proactive in my learning by
asking for help, as well as
more outspoken during
group discussions. The PSP
definitely prepared me for my
upcoming years as a medical
student - and for becoming
a leader.
What would you like to tell
other students about this
opportunity? If you are

passionate in wanting to
serve underrepresented
communities as a physician
and feel that you need a little
more guidance, this is the
program for you. If you are
willing to put in the work, the
PSP will help you improve
your skills, study habits, and
chances for successfully
applying to medical school.
The phrase "It takes a village"
is especially relevant, as
everyone involved in the
program wants their scholars
to succeed in medical school
and beyond. ■
