Leadership
Summit
The 2017 Leadership Summit, held in April in
Chandler, Ariz., was the best yet. At this
sold-out event, more than 215 student and
early- to mid-career professional members
gathered to network, learn, and build skills and
confidence. Attendees were kept busy with a
Summit agenda packed with more than two
dozen workshops and sessions addressing
topics related to both personal growth and
career development. The annual Leadership
Summit is especially noteworthy for its
success at matching STEM professionals with
STEM students for mentoring, and providing
opportunities for attendees to connect not
only with peers but also with other Native
students and professionals as well as with
representatives from corporate sponsors.

Wildhorse Foundation Grant
Benefits AISES
Projects
A grant of more than $2,000 from the Wildhorse
Foundation will be used to benefit AISES
projects on the Umatilla Indian Reservation,
including increasing the number of college scholarship awards, funding the planning and
cost of STEM activities for students, and supplementing the cost of the annual Native
American Arts, Crafts and Culture Day. The Wildhorse Foundation manages a community
benefit fund established by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation.
CEO Addresses National Tribal
Energy Summit
AISES CEO Sarah EchoHawk addressed the National Tribal Energy Summit in May
on the topic of building STEM capacity in Indian Country. The summit, hosted by
the Department of Energy and the National Conference of State Legislatures, is
attended by tribal members and others interested in energy issues. EchoHawk is a
former ambassador to the DOE's Minorities in Energy Initiative.
