flected on the projected Campus Center that Colacino and
Dr. Kelly had described. Vigeland, who was active in nearly
every aspect of school life during his HM years, was enthusiastic about the addition of this student center. "It has been
such a deep desire of students at HM to have a place like this,
to share ideas, work on publications, get together for club
meetings, or just hang out. This is thrilling," he said.
Alexandra Moss '06 remarked on the importance of
the Campaign to HM's future. "I was really inspired by the
whole night. As a former member of the varsity swim team
at HM, I know how much this is needed. It makes me want
to swim again!" she said. "But beyond that, the entire plan is
a fantastic new development that provides an environment
where all current and future HM students will thrive."

Students, teachers, alumni and visitors to Horace Mann School's Bronx campus had a chance
to view the model of the planned construction displayed in the Olshan Lobby.

The model was soon after moved to Horace Mann
School and displayed in the school's Olshan Lobby at
Homecoming 2016 and for weeks after, giving the entire
HM community the opportunity to visualize this enhancement of HM's future.
Construction begins
Construction on the northern corner of HM's Middle and
Upper Division campus began on September 26, 2016 and
is scheduled to conclude in time for the start of the 2018
academic year. For the children, adolescents and young
teens now making their way through classes, activities and
athletics, their return to school in 2018 will mean entering
into an expanded world of academic, athletic and communal possibilities. For HM alumni who return to campus for
various events throughout the year, these structures and
how they amplify the Horace Mann School experience will
become a source of pride.
In fact, they are already. Benjamin N. Cardozo School of
Law Prof. Arthur Jacobson '65, father of Lt. Ben Jacobson
'09, was among those who saw the building plans unveiled
at the HM in Motion launch. "Horace Mann is among the
handful of greatest schools in the United States. Its students
deserve facilities that match its greatness," Prof. Jacobson
said. "Dr. Kelly and the Board's plans do just that. I wish I
could return as an HM student once these glorious improvements are done." $
