Horace Mann - Summer 2016 - 54
Class Notes
as, respectively, Co-founder/CEO, Co-founder/
Director of Marketing, and Creative Director of
Mainland Media. As the company's name and
logo denote, The Bronx is the only New York City
borough connected to the mainland U.S. But
that is not why the classmates, together with
Anthony's brother Paul Ramirez, who attended
HM from 6th through 10th grades, are working to
promote The Bronx: They believe the borough
has a lot to offer New Yorkers and the world.
Having left The Bronx for college (Columbia for
Anthony and Greig; Binghamton and St. John's
Law School for John) their combined experience includes social service, youth and political
work, as well as corporate and commercial
enterprises, several of which the partners
founded individually. Today their Mainland Media
group connects people, organizations, and businesses with those interested in engaging with
Bronx residents, customers and stakeholders.
Mainland Media also promotes products found
on its fromthebronx.com website stocked with
cool Bronx T-shirts, posters, books and Bronxmade (from locally-grown peppers) Green
Market Hot Sauce. One Mainland Media enterprise that's drawing visitors is The Bronx Beer
Hall the partners opened with famed Bronx
chef David Greco in February 2013 in the Arthur
Avenue Retail Market in the borough's Belmont
section. It's a perennial "best bar" winner. In
October 2015 Anthony and Paul Ramirez were
named recipients of El Diario NY's prestigious EL
Award, which celebrates the achievements and
contributions to community of Latino Men in the
tri-state area. The alums have become involved
with HM's Upper Division Service Learning
Team's Bronx-based service-learning work.
They invited the Team to their venue in Nov.
2015 to present their own service activities and
returned to HM for Service Learning Day in April
2016. Visit http://www.mainlandmedia.net, and
