THE DRIVE TO FEED KIDS MOVEMENT
by Nutra Blend

E

very day 25,000 people worldwide die
of starvation and malnutrition. Locally,
one in five children in the United States are
food insecure, meaning they are not receiving
regular, nutritious meals at home. These 15
million children facing hunger may only receive
a meal at school or may possibly not eat at all.
Nutrition is critical to childhood development
and staggering numbers like these caused one
company to address the issue in a two-phase
approach: education and action.
Nutra Blend teamed up with Elanco to create
the Chew on This tour, a platform to spread
awareness and education about world hunger
and to dispel myths and misconceptions about
the livestock production industry. In 2013, the
tour-featuring spokesman, actor, former NFL
player, and champion wrestler Bill Goldberg-
traveled throughout the U.S., stopping at county
fairs, civic events, universities, and local feed
mills. Audiences viewed the educational video
in a traveling movie theater that was once a
semi-trailer, bringing awareness about world
hunger, population growth, and the myths and
untruths of the livestock production industry.
The second year, another educational video was
produced and the tour continued, but they knew
that the tour could only reach a limited amount
of people and they needed to think bigger.
In an effort to bring awareness of the critical
topic of food insecurity and how modern
agriculture techniques can help, Nutra Blend
and good friend, Mark Miller of the band
Sawyer Brown, took the subject matter to the
big screen to drive the message.
A concept that blossomed out of rural
Missouri, the movie Ivy League Farmer was
filmed, produced, and later released in early
2015. It's the story of a young man who returns
to his three-generation family dairy farm

post-graduation from Harvard only to see it
in a financial struggle. In addition to utilizing
the skills he obtained while at the Ivy League
school, the young man also has the difficult
task of approaching his strong-willed father to
convince him to take the ultimate risk to save
the farm. In addition, the young man is falling
in love with the girl of his dreams-as she is
battling a challenge of her own. A teacher in the
small town, she is on the front line of witnessing
food insecurity with the children in her school.
With the help of the young man's mother, she
takes on the task to provide take-home snacks
for each child in her classroom.

"THE DRIVE TO FEED KIDS
INITIATIVE HAS SUPPLIED
SEVEN MILLION MEALS
ACROSS THE U.S."

the weekend when they are not in school to
receive their daily meals. The food options are
discreetly placed into the children's backpacks
and may consist of fruit juices, peanut butter
crackers, pretzels, chicken noodle soup, beef
sticks, ravioli, oatmeal, mac and cheese, fresh
fruit, and granola bars.
The education and action phases are working.
Tens of millions of people will see the movies
that Nutra Blend has helped produce and the
company is hopeful to make a bigger impact
in its second year of the Drive to Feed Kids
initiative. As the movement continues to gain
prominence across the nation, the company
anticipates surpassing seven million meals in
its second year. Continuing to bring additional
information to the big screen, a second movie
has been filmed and is set to be released in 2016.

Similar to the movie, real-life action needed
to be taken. The Drive to Feed Kids initiative,
a partnership between Nutra Blend and its
customers, was designed to help provide meals
to hungry children living in its customers'
communities.
Outreach across the U.S. has been expanding in
the first year of the Drive to Feed Kids initiative.
Volunteers have taken the lead to raise funds
in their own communities, helping to support
local endeavors to fight childhood hunger by
providing food to their fellow neighbors. The
events have ranged from galas to silent auctions
to 5K runs and fun walks, where the support has
been outstanding.
In its first year of conception, the Drive to Feed
Kids initiative has supplied seven million meals
across the U.S., due to the generous support
of its customers and vendors. These meals
can be easily prepared by the children during
