A They are, and we can resole here. That
being said, it shouldn't be more then two or
three years before a resole would be needed.
Q From where do you source your materials?

A Well, just from some of my other answers
you can get a good idea. But I started at a
pretty young age. I quit milking my twenty or
so Jersey cows here in Pennsylvania to manage larger grazing dairies and sheep stations
overseas. I first landed in New Zealand at age
17; it's a country that fascinates me. They
are constantly pushing the bar with grazing
and ag in general. I love the idea of constant
improvement and it's really put into action
there. In Europe I leaned toward the cheese
making aspect of the business, which is
something I believe they excel in. It was great
to see the different aspects of dairying. Milking twenty cows in Switzerland and milking
3,000 in New Zealand took the same amount
of people.
Q Are your boots able to be resoled?

A Currently we try and get as much material as we can from the U.S., but it's limited
our options. So we've begun using more and
more overseas stuff-mostly from France and
England. It leads me to believe there is good
demand for U.S.-made materials, but more
start-up companies need to be launched. I believe this because aging infrastructure is like
a virus here in the U.S. So it takes so much
longer for existing companies to shift gears
than for a new company to start. The only
downside is a lot of these jobs have skipped
a generation so the knowledge is nearly lost.
But when we find smaller companies here
that are starting up and can fill the space for
an overseas material, we're very quick to give
it all we've got to help it grow.
Q What makes your boots better than other
options that are out there?
A We are constantly trying to find better products. We never get comfortable with
one component. So when we find something
that works we use it. But if something better
comes along we are very quick to shift over
and use that once we've tested it and found it

superior. It's research and development. We
made it a point to never cut corners, which we
see a lot in overseas production of footwear
where every penny that can be saved is, and as
a result we get a very cheap product that lasts
only six to twelve months. We are paying for
this one way or another. But that's been the
driving demand in the U.S. for the past sixty
years: cheaper, faster, newer. It's something
we want to steer clear of.
Vince has built his company around the concept
that we need to bring manufacturing back within our own borders rather than outsourcing it
overseas. A good pair of American-made boots
will last longer and be more comfortable than
anything made in China. Having worn Truman
Boot Co.'s boots for the past year, I can attest
to their durability and comfort-and they look
great, too!
