S

tuart Hall is the new Formulations and Nutrition
Manager at Phoenix Feeds and Nutrition, but he
is not new to animal science and nutrition. Once an
owner and operator of a dairy farm in Cabot, Vermont, Stuart has a firsthand understanding of what
farmers are looking for. "I think my experience...
has given me an appreciation for the challenges and
goals our customers have for their farms and businesses. Most people can't understand the dynamic of
having your job, you family, your home all tied up in
your business."
In addition to his experience as a dairy farmer, Stuart has worked in and visited numerous feed mills
across New England and Eastern New York-including many years ago when current PFN owner
David Santos worked at Feed Commodities, Stuart
worked under him. Going on farm visits together,
David trained Stuart and taught him how to formulate diets. Now, all these years later-and with much
more experience-Stuart is excited to get to work
with David again.
After speaking with Stuart, it is apparent that he
has a true enthusiasm for animal nutrition, as well as
for Phoenix Feeds. "This job is very interesting and
never boring," Stuart states, adding that he is thankful to work for such a vibrant company. Stuart is enjoying his fast-paced position, noting how the time
has flown since starting at Phoenix. As Formulations
and Nutrition Manager, Stuart interprets the needs
laid out by the nutritionists, and translates it into the
products and formulas that Phoenix Feeds uses. He
has concentrated on becoming fluent in the product
names and working with manufacturing so that the
farmer gets the feed they need.
The feed that comes out of Phoenix Feeds and Nutrition not only has an impact on the animals it feeds
and their farmers, but on the wider community of
consumers. Diet has a significant role in shaping and
determining health, for farm animals as well as for
people. Therefore, it is important that the diets of
our meat and dairy animals are of high quality and
well-formulated, as those nutrients find their way into
our bodies. The success of farm animals, the success
of our local farmers, and the success of the general
population are intimately connected through shared
health. As the new Formulations and Nutrition Manager, Stuart has the vital position of working with
the science and excellent facilities and equipment at
PFN to produce the feed that eventually feeds us.
When not at work, Stuart enjoys home projects.

With the recent move to Brandon, Stuart is not lacking remodeling opportunities with electrical work
and carpentry projects already under way. These
projects allow Stuart to work with his hands, and are
a great way to get away from his computer screen at
work. Stuart and his wife, Robyn, didn't just move
for Stuart's new position at PFN, but to be closer to
their new baby grandson, Jackson. The move allows
them to be there for the new parents, their son Philip
and daughter-in-law Brittany, and spend time with
the baby.
With his overwhelming excitement and experience,
Stuart is an incredible addition to the Phoenix team.
In the coming weeks, make some time to say hi and
welcome Stuart and his family to the community.
