MISSOURI SNAPSHOTS 2011 Photo Contest Win one of five Missouri State Park Getaway Packages for two! G 1. et out your camera! Rural Missouri and Missouri State Parks have teamed up to bring you the first-ever Missouri Snapshots Photo Contest! This contest is open to all amateur photographers (if you earn money selling photos, please refrain from entering). In each of five categories (see below), a first-, second- and third-place photograph will be selected. The winning images will be published in the January 2012 issue of Rural Missouri. Photographs will be judged on sharpness, composition, lighting, creativity and adherence to the category’s theme. Prizes* Judges will select a first-, second- and third-place photograph in each category. The following prizes will be awarded: Historic Missouri — Two-night stay at Sam A. Baker State Park with 4-mile float trip for two, a $50 park store gift certificate and dinner for four at the J. Huston Tavern at Arrow Rock State Historic Site. Playing in the Parks — Two-night stay in a yurt at Lake of the Ozarks State Park with 4-hour pontoon boat rental and a gift certificate for dining. Show-Me Wildlife — Two-night stay at Bennett Spring State Park with a canoe trip and $50 gift certificate for the dining lodge. 1st Place — Each first-place photographer will win a Missouri State Park Getaway Package. Valued at approximately $500 each, the packages include lodging for two (based on availability, reservations required), a state park activity and a gift certificate for meals. Prizes correspond to a photo category: Scenic Missouri — Two-night stay at Stockton State Park with 4-hour pontoon boat rental and $50 gift certificate for the Marina Snak Shak. Fun on the Water — Two-night stay at a threestar Branson hotel with sailing on the Spirit of America catamaran at Table Rock State Park and a $50 gift certificate for the park’s marina store. Rules Photographs must have been taken at one of Missouri’s 85 state parks or historic sites. Visit for a complete list. A photographer may enter no more than two photographs in any category (10 entries total for the contest). There is no cost to enter. All photographs must be entered as unmounted, 8-by-10-inch prints. Images may be color or black and white. Prints will not be returned. A completed entry form (at right) must be attached to the back of every photograph entered. Categories Scenic Missouri — Missouri is blessed with an abundance of natural beauty. From rolling prairies, rugged mountains and big rivers, entries in this category should capture scenes worthy of a postcard. Fun on the Water — Whether fishing, boating or swimming, Missouri’s state parks provide lots of aquatic options. To win in this category, show us how you like to get wet and wild! castle ruins to our state’s covered bridges, history is everywhere in Missouri’s state parks. Creatively photograph that history, and you could be a winner. of Missouri’s creatures, great or small, could earn you first-place honors. Flora and fauna photography are both acceptable in this category.
