The three-day event starts on Friday, June 17 and has three distinct categories. In Big Air, dogs are given up to 40 feet to run before jumping off of the dock, as seen on our cover and at right, and are judged by the distance they fly through the air. In Speed Retrieve, canines are allowed to start 20 feet from the end of the dock and are timed on how fast they can dive into the water, swim to the end of the pool and grab a toy suspended 2 inches above the water. In Extreme Vertical, the animals are again allowed a 20-foot running start and are judged on their ability to grab a toy suspended 8 feet from the end of the dock. 4 Cooperation 5 Perspectives 8 Outdoors 14 Eats 24 Notes 28 Recipes 34 Events 40 Neighbors 42 Just4Kids 43 Landscapes photos by Paul Newton The toy is suspended 4 feet 6 inches above the water and is raised in 2 inch increments. There are numerous divisions in each category for the animals depending on their experience to keep it competitive for more experienced pups and neophytes alike. Come by car or dock your boat next to the waterfront eatery to see the show. You can stand right next to the water, but you'll have to watch out for an occasional splash. There also are bleachers set up as well as tons of seats along the restaurant's sprawling patio that overlook the action. Qualifying rounds begin Friday with all the finals being held Sunday. Both on-site and preregistration are available. For more information on the Canine Cannonball, visit or JUNE 2016 | RURALMISSOURI.COOP 3 http://www.RURALMISSOURI.COOP
