Thermal Belt
Rail Trail

Officially opened in October of 2019,
this flat, 12-foot wide trail is suited for
walking, biking, and running while
being pet friendly. Over 13.5 miles of
paved paths, the trail connects the
rural country side in the North to the
Towns of Spindale, Rutherfordton,
Ruth, and Forest City in the South.
The trail has seven devoted parking
areas, informative kiosks and bike
repair stations throughout the trail.

Purple Martin
Greenway

Currently 1.9 miles in length, the
4th phase is scheduled to be added
by the Spring of 2020 connecting
Crestview Park on the south end of
town to Kiwanis Park on the north
end of downtown Rutherfordton. The
trail is bike, kid, and pet friendly, as
well as handicap accessible.

Park Square Park

Many amenities are opening this
Spring at one of the Thermal Belt Rail
Trail access points on Park Square
in Forest City. These include a dog
park with water feature, fitness area,
playground with handicap swing,
water filling stations, covered seating,
bicycle racks, bicycle repair stations,
and public restrooms.
