IMPACT AND ROLLOVER TEST PROCEDURES
COMMITTEE SEEKING MEMBERS

ON-ROAD AUTOMATED VEHICLE STANDARDS
COMMITTEE TO MEET

The SAE Impact and Rollover Test Procedure Standards
Committee is seeking technical committee members to
participate in two projects.
The committee is developing a recommended practice for
hydrogen fuel cell vehicle crash testing safety guidelines.
This document would establish laboratory procedures to
mitigate risks to humans and equipment involved in hydrogen
fuel cell vehicle crash tests. The committee issued a similar
standard, J3040, for electric vehicle crash test lab safety
guidelines, last December.
The committee is also refining J2249, "Wheelchair Tiedown
and Occupant Restraint Systems for Use in Motor Vehicles"
and J2481, "Dynamic Simulation Sled Testing." The goal is
to update or replace the existing 48 km/h sled test pulse to
meet the current FMVSS208 56 km/h frontal barrier crash
test requirement. This standard for laboratory procedures
will encourage the design, testing, installation, and use of
equipment that will be comparable in crash performance to
seat securement and occupant restraint systems provided by
the vehicle manufacturer.
The committee is seeking contributors of information on
existing sled test procedures, with sled test deceleration pulses,
that replicate the FMVSS208 56 km/h frontal barrier crash test
pulse experienced by light vehicles such as sedans, minivans,
CUVs, SUVs, pickup trucks, and full-size vans. The committee
is seeking sled test procedures and sled pulse profiles - not
the test results, which may be proprietary. Along with the test
procedures, the committee is pursuing the rationale used in
establishing these sled test pulse corridors.
Anyone interested in participating in these efforts should
contact Nikki Ameredes (nameredes@sae.org).

The SAE On-Road Automated Vehicle (ORAV) Standards
Committee will meet during the Transportation Research
Board's annual Automated Vehicles Symposium, July 18-22,
1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the Hilton San Francisco Union Square in
San Francisco, California.
Task force leaders will address the following ongoing activities:
* Planning for industry standards: (Bryant Walker-Smith)
* Taxonomy and definitions (J3016): (Barbara Wendling)
* Dynamic Test Procedures for Verification & Validation
of Automated Driving Systems (ADS) (V&V, J3092):
(Venki Agaram)
* Reference architecture and interfaces (RAI, J3131): (Dan Bartz)

OBD-TELEMATICS WORKSHOP
The SAE Global Ground Vehicle Standards will be holding
a one-day OBD-Telematics workshop on Thursday, July 28,
in conjunction with the upcoming 2016 Battelle CyberAuto
Challenge scheduled for July 25-July 29, 2016 in Warren,
MI. Vehicle safety and security issues around the use and
installation of telematics devices will be highlighted. The
event will incorporate break-out sessions where participants
will be encouraged to discuss potential solutions to minimize
problems without limiting innovation, data use and access, and
the desire to be connected.
