MOBILITY HISTORICAL COMMITTEE AND HISTORIC VEHICLE ASSOCIATION TEAM UP AT WORLD
CONGRESS BOOTH
The Historic Vehicle Association (HVA) and SAE International
will again undertake a cooperative effort during the SAE 2016
World Congress and Exhibition (April 12-14 in Detroit, Michigan).
HVA will partner with the SAE Mobility Historical Committee
(MHC) and have a presence at the MHC exhibit booth.
In the summer of 2015, HVA sponsored a cross-country
trek from Detroit to San Francisco in a 1915 Ford Model T to
commemorate the same trip made by Henry Ford 100 years
ago. This Model T will be displayed at the booth, and HVA
President Mark Gessler is scheduled to make a presentation
regarding the vehicle and the HVA on Tuesday, April 12.
In 2015, SAE International announced the formation of a new
Technical Standards Committee in cooperation with HVA. The
SAE Historic Vehicle Standards Committee was formed to
develop technical documents which address the preservation,
restoration, classification, documentation, and responsible
use of historic vehicles. Development of terms and definitions,
as well as accepted practices and procedures, are also
planned by the committee.
Congress attendees are invited to visit the SAE MHC booth. In
addition to the Model T and HVA presentation, SAE Technical
Standards Committee members will be available to speak
about SAE's ongoing standardization efforts.

A 1915 Ford Model T will be on display at the Mobility Historical
Committee booth at the SAE 2016 World Congress.

Standards Committee, contact Gary Pollak (gary.pollak@sae.org).

SUBCOMMITTEE CHAIR OF VEHICLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS SECURITY COMMITTEE FEATURED
IN AUTOBEAT GROUP ARTICLE
Lisa Boran, who chairs the Automotive Security Guidelines and
Risk Management subcommittee of the SAE Vehicle Electrical
Systems Security Committee, was interviewed last August for an
AutoBeat Group Viewpoint article. Boran, an in-vehicle security
expert and Security Attribute Leader at Ford Motor Co., spoke
about the committee's goals and objectives in an article titled
"Seeking Best Practices in Automotive Cyber Security."
The committee establishes best practices that help designers
ensure that system architectures are made secure from unwanted
breaches.
"As vehicles gain more electronic features, the number of possible
entry points to the onboard electronic network increases," Boran
told the publication. "These potential vulnerabilities require
designers to consider the security of each breachable component
and how it might allow access to otherwise unrelated electronics
elsewhere in the vehicle. Our subcommittee's mission is to
establish best practices for making these evaluations."
"Our group focuses on guidelines and risk analysis," she said. "The
focus of our subcommittee is not on the end result, but rather the
procedure used to get there. We are developing methodologies
that apply to virtually any electric system in a vehicle. We're not
telling developers which system to use, but we are showing them
options along with the pros and cons of each one."
