race, which we won that year on a really tough course. To
have that during my last quarter of school and then go
back to school and graduate was really exciting.
What is the most interesting project that you are
working on at the moment?
I've always got a few projects at any given time. One of
them I'm most excited about is a 3D-printed remotecontrol airplane that I'm making at home. It will be a
scale replica of a Spitfire aircraft made of 50 different
3D-printed parts and glued together. Once I finish the
construction, I'm going to add electronics and fly it. I've
printed about half the parts already with my 3D printer
at home and they all look great.
Who is or was the most influential person in your success?
I would have to say my parents. They encouraged me
to pursue engineering based on how mechanically
adept I was.

What is your dream vacation?
My dream vacation would be to travel the world
in a well-prepared vehicle and go to far off
remote places where most people wouldn't go. It
would probably take months if not a year to go
to everywhere I want but I really enjoy camping,
seeing new places, meeting new people and
experiencing local cultures and foods. It would for
sure be an adventure of a lifetime!

In what ways were you involved with SAE International
as a student?
I was involved with SAE through my school's Baja SAE
team. I was on the team every year I went to school,
and every year I got more and more out of the program.
Being a part of that team and trying to build a vehicle
from the ground up really makes you think as well as
apply the things you learn in the classroom. I remember
during my last few years of school I would learn
something from work and try to apply it to what we were
doing on the Baja team.
Why did you decide to transfer your SAE Student
Membership to Professional Membership after you
graduated?
I wanted to stay involved within the SAE community as
well as keep my networking opportunities going. I've met
so many great people through SAE that have helped to
influence me, and it has made many more opportunities
available. I would like to help influence other young
engineers and maybe even help them out with similar
opportunities. Last year I helped to organize the first

Of a wet ride on his motorcycle in an unofficial, friendly race called the East vs. West
vs. South Shootout, Max said: "I had flashbacks (happy ones) of driving the Baja car
through mud." Max won the dead-engine drag race portion of the Shootout.
Baja SAE California event, and I got to meet a lot of great people from
SAE with plenty of experience putting those events on. Seeing things
as an organizer and not as a student really made me appreciate all the
work that goes into a Baja event.
