tuning the engine. He also kept the team on track when Cam was gone
for a semester on co-op and couldn't always be in Platteville."
Asked what the key to victory was, Stoppleworth responded: "We
spent all year trying to build an entirely new snowmobile to bring to
the 2019 SAE Clean Snowmobile Challenge. From the conclusion of
the 2018 competition, we began building our new machine from the
ground up; nothing from the 2018 1.0-L EcoBoost engine was used on
the new machine for 2019. We completely reconfigured every aspect of
the engine for better handling, increased fuel economy, and decreased
noise emission."
Elaborating, Stoppleworth said: "The best part of our sled is how
well we packaged the Ford 1.0-L EcoBoost engine inside the panels of

the snowmobile. With the Ford EcoBoost being a very
advanced engine, the controls and accessories required
to run the engine take up not only space, but time to
adequately tune and control each accessory. We have
been congratulated by several teams on how well we
pulled our sled together, such as the engine, fuel cell,
engine controls, cooling, and intake and exhaust systems.
The hardest part for us as a team was trying to get each
piece to work together in such a small confined space
while remaining presentable and easily repairable. From
a controls standpoint, it has a custom tune from one of
our team members [the aforementioned Fager], who
spent countless hours dialing the engines tune."

NEW PROCESS FOR CDS
REGISTRATION THIS FALL
After careful thought and deliberation, the SAE International
Collegiate Design Series (CDS) staff will be moving forward
with some significant changes to the online registration
process for the 2020 SAE CDS season. It is our intent that the
changes being implemented for the upcoming season will help
to alleviate potential server overload and team stress points
on registration day. It is also our goal to give as many unique
universities the opportunity to compete as possible.

The CDS staff is hopeful that these new process changes will
give every university wishing to participate a greater chance
of getting into at least one event. We welcome feedback
