g-25 committEE bEgins work on corrosion prEVEntion stAndArd
SAE's new g-25 Avionics and Electronics corrosion committee,
which held its first meeting last December, has begun work on
AS12500 ™, "Corrosion Prevention and Deterioration Control in
Electronic Components and Assemblies."
In 2014, the Department of Defense's Defense Standardization
Program Office (DSPO) selected SAE International to develop
an industry standard for corrosion prevention and control of
defense avionics and electronics. The Avionics and Electronics
Corrosion committee brings together government and industry
manufacturing experts to develop standards that document

design and manufacturing best practices aimed at promoting the
development, production, modification, fielding, and sustainment
of corrosion resistant defense avionics and electronic products.
AS12500 will establish minimum requirements for procedures,
materials and systems for protecting electronic components
and assemblies from adverse environments in commercial and
government applications.
The committee's next meeting will be held in July in Tysons,
Virginia, USA.

nEw hElicoptEr hoists committEE holds First mEEting
SAE International's new g-26 helicopter hosts committee
held its initial meeting in March in Orlando, Florida, with over
60 participants.
This committee was formed to develop minimum performance
standards for helicopter hoists.

In addition to the hoist design specification, the agency also
requested a new aerospace recommend practice providing
guidance for a means to show compliance with FAA regulations
for hoist installation and design. Upon completion, the FAA plans
to develop a Technical Standard Order (TSO) for the design and
manufacture of external helicopter hoists.

SAE International received a tasking request from the FAA
(Federal Aviation Administration) to develop such documents
for hoists that are used for external cargo as well as search and
rescue applications.

Participation in this committee is open to individuals from hoist
manufacturers, operators and rotorcraft manufacturers. For

AdditiVE mAnuFActuring Focus oF nEw committEE work
A new SAE International Aerospace materials specification
(Ams) Additive manufacturing committee is being formed. The
committee will be chaired by dave Abbott, Principal Engineer,
MPED Additive Technologies, GE Aviation. The committee is
planning a kickoff meeting in July in Atlanta. Interested parties
are invited to participate in this committee. For more information,

SAE International has also partnered with the Ohio Aerospace
Institute on a winning bid to the National Institute of Standards
and Technology (NIST) to form an aerospace Additive
Manufacturing Consortia. SAE will support this group with its
standards development work.
