SAE International finished 2009 in a strong financial position, poised to excel through 2010 and work toward the goals outlined in its Vision 2020. In 2009, SAE International made bold moves to refocus its programs, products and services by: • Enhancing the digital capabilities of its offerings, both in terms of platforms and delivery formats • Increasing its offerings related to mobility electronics • Working to expand the global reach and relevance of its programs, products and services. SAE International also took steps to aggressively reduce expenses based on a radically transformed mobility industry. Because of these changes, SAE International is well-poised to meet the needs of its customers in a cost-effective, yet compelling manner. SAE International exceeded its revised financial goals for 2009. This was accomplished through an ambitious and successful plan of action that included: • Reduced cost structure by 30 percent, all while preserving the organization’s mission and integrity • Sharpened focus on contemporary member/customer value • Shifted balance from fixed to variable costs In short, through the challenges of 2009 came the redefining of SAE International for the New Economy. Key assets have been unleashed; SAE International’s global platform has been strengthened; and the capacity for growth has been expanded. SAE International is wellpoised to succeed in 2010 and beyond. 4 2009 Annual Reporthttp://www.sae.org
