SAE International and its Board of Directors recognize this and have been developing and working toward a strategic plan titled “Vision 2020.” Vision 2020 sets the goal that in the year 2020, SAE International will lead the mobility industry by: • Connecting a global network of students, engineers, practitioners and companies • Attracting, managing and distributing mobility related information through • Education • Standards • Technical publications A clear vision and strong planning are crucial for the • Leading in global standardization • Creating and sustaining beneficial affiliations and interfaces that add value, encourage innovation and help form sound public policy Throughout 2009, SAE International continued to work toward that vision by pursuing four core strategies: (1) focusing on its key market sectors of the aerospace, automotive, and commercial vehicle industries to achieve that vision; (2) developing and delivering a contemporary value proposition through a highly relevant 21st Century portfolio of programs, products and services; (3) delivering locally relevant and locally valued products to a global mobility enterprise through cost-effective delivery methods; and (4) engaging in the emerging technologies that will better enable the mobility enterprise to meet the ever-evolving regulatory requirements and demands of the marketplace. 2009 Annual Report 5
