In 2013 SAE's Collegiate Design Series program "went electric" offering electric design challenges in 50% of the design classes. The following held electric events: SAE Aero Design® Series, Clean Snowmobile Challenge®, Formula SAE® and the Formula Hybrid class. By continually changing our design classes the challenges remain technologically relevant and incorporate technologies at the forefront their industries. Last year, 20 teams from around the U.S. and Canada competed in the Formula SAE® electric class. Another exciting accomplishment from the ranks of CDS competitions comes from an all-female Baja team which proves that the principles of engineering apply across fields and are for everyone. The Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University formed the Lady Eagles Baja SAE team in 2005. This unique team is comprised solely of women, including the two advisors; it is not part of a senior design course and the majority of participants are not Mechanical Engineering majors. 10
