BARRA In 2013, Forbes named Ms. Barra as one of the 50 most powerful women in business, and Fortune named her as one of the 100 most powerful women in the world. The SAE Foundation is proud to call her a friend and was delighted to honor Ms. Barra at our annual celebration on May 22, 2013 with the Industry Leadership Award, making her the first woman to receive the honor. Barra represents two great stories rolled into one: the comeback of an American industrial icon and proof that the American dream is alive for those who are willing to innovate and work hard, regardless of their gender. Her accomplishments are a beacon for young girls and the future of women in engineering and all STEM fields. Ms. Barra announced at the banquet that GM would donate a first production 2014 Cadillac CTS VSport, including a performance driving school package, to the SAE Foundation. The CTS Vsport is the first Cadillac model to offer an eight-speed automatic transmission. The car is built on the high-performance award-winning ATS architecture and is equipped with a Twin-Turbo V-6. "The SAE International's STEM education programs are vital to ensuring we ignite the passion for math and science in young students who will be the future leaders of the automobile industry," said Barra. "At a recent SAE A World In Motion® third-grade skimmer project, I was especially gratified to see students having so much fun applying key principles of math and science. So it is fitting to support SAE's programs by donating a vehicle that embodies what is possible when ingenuity meets engineering excellence." 18
