The Boler Company Helps SAE Honor a Legend and Celebrate Innovation - The
SAE/Magnus Hendrickson Innovation Award
The history of trucking in America is a fascinating one with
one inventor and businessman at the core of trucking
vehicle dynamics. Magnus Hendrickson founded
Hendrickson Motor Truck Company in 1913 in Chicago
and his inventions forever changed truck suspension
systems.
In 1926, Hendrickson introduced the first tandem
truck suspension - the "walking beam" - which
distributed the truck's load evenly between the
rear axles, improving traction and providing a much
smoother ride. Hendrickson is now part of The Boler
Company and their "walking beam" suspension is still
used today all over the world.
To honor Magnus Hendrickson's contributions to the
commercial vehicle industry and to recognize innovators
following in his footsteps, The Boler Company made a
generous gift to the SAE Foundation to support the creation of
the SAE/Magnus Hendrickson Innovation Award.
The award will honor individuals or teams in the commercial vehicle industry whose
efforts in commercial vehicle dynamics represent true innovation and have created
lasting change in the industry. The award will be presented at SAE's annual Commercial
Vehicle Engineering Congress.
