2016 CHAIRMAN'S LETTER
As we prepare this Annual Report, I reflect on 2016
with incredible pride at what your support helped us
accomplish.

Music whose development was supported by the
GM Foundation, and you'll hear from people who have
benefited directly from SAE's STEM programs.

2016 was a landmark year for the SAE Foundation
as we championed transformative STEM learning
experiences for over 120,000 K-College students,
provided 26 scholarships for exceptional students
pursuing STEM degrees and recognized over 100
students and professionals for their achievements
within the mobility industry.

I watched with pride this year as SAE Foundation
supporters-both individuals and organizations-
continued to passionately support our efforts to make a
lasting, positive impact. SAE's programs nurture STEM
education through the addition of critical problemsolving skills, helping students to discover the connection
between their new-found talents and real-world
applications. Along the way, students who participate
in SAE's programs come to an enlightening realization-
that they possessed this talent all along.

One of the highlights of the year is SAE Foundation's
Annual Celebration when we come together with
500 other individuals just as passionate about STEM
education. This year, we honored Ford CEO Mark
Fields with the Industry Leadership Award. The
event caught the attention of Michigan Governor
Rick Snyder and we were honored that he spent time
interacting with students and addressing the crowd
with an inspiring speech about the importance of
creating a STEM-educated workforce.
We are excited to share these highlights and more
with you throughout the following pages. You will
read about Toyota USA Foundation's $1 million
pledge to support SAE's AWIM LearnTwice program,
the launch of the newest K-3 program called Making

I have thoroughly enjoyed my term as the SAE
Foundation Board of Trustees Chair and am proud to be
