Racing and Chairman of the Board
of Roush Enterprises, during an
engaging interview that was
the highlight of the 2017 Annual
Celebration. The event took place
at the Masonic Temple Detroit and
more than 360 guests enjoyed the
evening in support of SAE's STEM
education programs, awards and
scholarships.
Guests interacted with students
from kindergarten through college
and learned about their A World
In Motion and Collegiate Design
Series projects while networking
with colleagues during the cocktail
reception in the distinguished
Crystal Ballroom.

Two outstanding fifth grade
students from Susick Elementary
in Susick, Michigan kicked off
the dinner and award program
and impressed the crowd
with their self-assurance and
presentation skills. These two
students have participated in
the A World In Motion program
and were an example of how it
not only provides science and
math education, but also teaches
students how to confidently speak
and present their ideas in front of
a group.

The evening continued with
Autoline's John McElroy acting
as emcee. He conducted an
in-depth interview with Jack
Roush, who recounted stories
of building his own cars, drag
racing and narrowly escaping
death when the plane he
was piloting crashed into an
Alabama lake.

Jack expressed his optimism
for the future generation of
engineers after visiting St.
Edith's School in Livonia,
Michigan. He saw first-hand
how student's imagination
and curiosity are encouraged
through SAE's education

the Donald W. Ableson Award
for Visionary Leadership to
Jack E. Thompson (posthumously), the AVL-sponsored
Gordon Millar Award to Ford
Motor Company, and the Young
Industry Leadership Awards to
Sandeep Makam, a group leader
for FCA US LLC and Srikanth
Pilla, PhD, assistant professor
of automotive engineering
at Clemson University.
