Harper International, world leader in thermal processing solutions for advanced materials, has finalized a contract with a client in Brazil for a research scale carbon fiber processing line. The line will include Harper’s renowned oxidation ovens, LT and HT furnaces, as well as a state-of-the-art HMI supervisory control interface, material handling and material treatment systems including creels, winders, tensions stand, electrolysis, washing and drying, and waste gas abatement systems. The fully integrated and extensively outfitted microline has capacity to process continuous tows of carbon fiber with high precision and outstanding data collection capabilities. The system will be used largely for investigation into use of carbon fiber, as well as to expand the local knowledge base and proficiency at the university level. Lancer Systems LP, an engineering and manufacturing group specializing in plastic, composite and fiber optic technologies, has announced the addition of an autoclave, press and kiln to the company’s line of manufacturing capabilities. Lancer’s engineering staff was also expanded with two recent hires so far this year, rounding out a surge in manufacturing and engineering capability for 2012. Lancer’s recent expansion includes the addition of a 4-foot by 6-foot autoclave, a 300 ton press and a 41-inch by 27-inch by 36-inch kiln. The autoclave generates 300psi at up to 650 degrees Fahrenheit. The press’ platen area measures 30 inches by 36 inches with an 18-inch stroke, 24-inch daylight and electric platens that reach 800 degrees Fahrenheit. The kiln with retort reaches 2200 degrees Fahrenheit and is plumbed for inert atmosphere. Together, the cell will allow for greater production and prototype capability.
