Materials & Products NDT Solutions, Inc. (NDTS) and Genesis Systems Group have teamed up to develop automated Robotic Non-Destructive Inspection systems. The NSpect 210 is a two-station, single 6-Axis robotic work-cell designed for automated NDI processes. The NSpect family of 6-Axis robotic work-cell systems has been developed to provide cost-effective, accurate inspection solutions of large volumes of parts. This Robotic NDI system combines ultrasonic inspection data with robot positional data and present it as A-Scan, B-Scan and C-Scan images. Inspectors can focus on interpreting the test data instead of performing manual inspections saving both time and money. For more information, visit: www.NDTS.com. With ever-increasing threats and always-decreasing budgets in mind, Bayer MaterialScience has developed a new innovative blast-mitigating system for critical buildings and other structures that can be tailored to protect against a range of threat levels. The Hygard® polycarbonate laminate system can be added to existing buildings to avoid the high costs of relocating or building new, more secure structures. The system combines the aesthetics and impact resistance of Hygard® EX1750 polycarbonate laminate panels with a high-strength, energy-absorbing steel mounting structure. The system can protect and provide a decorative appearance to new and existing (retrofit) buildings, allowing most buildings to be upgraded to higher blast protection levels than previously possible. In particular, the system is ideal for buildings in urban settings where standoff distance is greatly diminished. For more information, visit: www.bmsnafta.com. Nikon Metrology introduces the newest product in the iGPS family, the i5 Integrated Sensor (i5is), a fully integrated 5 Degree of Freedom measurement device, ideal for applications ranging from vehicle tracking to automated assembly of large parts. iGPS is a metrology system that uses a network of laser transmitters to create a measurement volume that can range in size from small vehicle assembly shops up to large aircraft Final Assembly Lines. The transmitters are used to triangulate the positions of hand held probes and sensors, like the i5is, to enable part inspection and tracking anywhere within the volume. The i5is uses the newest generation of iGPS receiver technology, which delivers a significant leap forward in both performance & measurement reliability. The i5is integrates three previously separate components into one device while significantly improving data quality, extending measurement range, and improving accuracy. These new developments significantly improve the iGPS product offering by providing major advantages in both usability and performance. Momentive Specialty Chemicals, a premier global supplier of epoxy resins and curing agents for automotive applications, has a new epoxy system to hasten mass production of carbon-fiber composites for lightweight automotive structural components. Curing in as little as two minutes, Momentive’s new low viscosity EPIKOTE™ Resin 05475 and EPIKURE™ Curing Agent 05500 system facilitates industrial scale high- or low-pressure RTM, with direct infusion of carbon fibers. Features and benefits of the EPIKOTE Resin 05475 / EPIKURE Curing Agent 05500 system are: a very low viscosity at the recommended injection and cure temperature of 115–120°C, a long injection window of about one minute allowing for excellent fiber wetting and mold fill, followed by a very fast cure. The cured system shows excellent adhesion to carbon fibers leading to superior thermal and mechanical performance. This new EPIKOTE Resin 05475 / EPIKURE Curing Agent 05500 system provides a solution for the production of structural composite parts in a shorter cycle time compared to the EPIKOTE Resin 05475 / EPIKURE Curing Agent 05443 system, which takes five minutes to cure. At the same time, the outstanding resin flow, fiber wetting and mechanical properties of the latter system have been maintained. The Heloxy™ Additive 112 internal mold release agent works very well with both of these fast-cure epoxy systems. For more information, visit: www.momentive.com. Agilent Technologies Inc. has introduced the world’s fastest vector signal generator in a PXI form factor. The Agilent M9381A is a 1-MHz to 3- or 6-GHz VSG that combines fast switching and excellent RF parametric performance: high output power, linearity and superior level accuracy, outstanding adjacent channel power ratio performance (for output levels up to +10 dBm or more) and wide modulation bandwidth (up to 160 MHz) for testing RF devices. Agilent designed the M9381A for applications such as testing and validating the design of wireless power amplifiers and transceivers, public safety and military radios, and cellular base stations (primarily picocell and femtocell). The new PXIe VSG does more tests in less time, which reduces the cost of testing. Agilent’s exclusive baseband-tuning technology innovation enables frequency and amplitude switching speed as fast as 10 µs in list mode and 250 µs from its programming interface. The switching speed is further enhanced by excellent linearity and repeatability associated with Agilent’s signal generators. The versatile list mode helps increase speed and provides flexibility by allowing engineers to change 80 parameters, including frequency, power and modulation in as many as 3,201 list mode points. This enables engineers to meet a wide variety of test requirements while improving test throughput. The M9381A, with its excellent modulation quality at high output power, can be used at power levels up to +10 dBm or more depending on the standard with little degradation to adjacent channel power ratio performance. This enables engineers to directly operate at the required power levels without additional amplification to compensate for test system losses. The M9381A delivers ACPR of up to -70 dBc (W-CDMA test model 1, 64 DPCH). The output power up to +19 dBm can be controlled precisely with accuracy of ±0.4 dB. The issue of biodamages comprises a wide range of scientific and practical tasks associated with protection of raw materials and products against damage by bacteria, fungi, insects and rodents during long-term storage, production, transportation and operation. The biodegradation is used for degradation and utilization of worn-out materials and articles. This research is urgent for ecology and the struggle against environmental contamination. The biodamage problem is both scientifically complex and practically diverse. Scientifically, it is based on the knowledge of material science, biology and chemistry. The first objective of this book is to provide detailed information on the three interrelated parts: bacteria and fungi (the source of biodamages); insects and rodents (materials and products depredators); and materials and products damaged by living organisms. The most modern data on morphology and physiology of biodegrading microorganisms are presented. The second objective of this book is to provide the reader with a systematisation of biological degradation on both natural and synthetic materials and products (plastics, textile, fibres, leather and fur, wood and so on). Problems of utilisation of polymeric wastes using microorganisms are discussed and main protection methods and technology for raw materials and semi-products against biodamages are shown. Practical recommendation for struggle against biodamage of materials by insects (moth, leather beetles, wood-fretters, cockroaches and termites) and rodents (mice and rats) are given.
