bearing fibers are damaged or cut2,5. The subsequent
bonding of onserts onto the profile is difficult as well,
because internal release agents (IRA) reduce the surface
adhesion.
The extrusion of profiles is also a continuous process
that is further advanced than the pultrusion process
in terms of automation, process speed, process
control and quality assurance (see Figure 2 right).
Thus, extruded profiles have a range of properties,
which might be able to compensate parts of the above
mentioned disadvantages. This encompasses a material
appropriate load transfer by welding onserts and a good
surface quality.9

Objectives
Figure 2 states the objectives for the developed
manufacturing process for hybrid profiles in terms of
product properties. In order to reach these objectives,
an Integrated Pultrusion and Simultaneous Extrusion
process (InPulSE-process) was developed at the Institute
of Plastics Processing (IKV) at RWTH Aachen University
which enables to manufacture hybrid profiles that
feature a thermoset FRP core which is inline joined with
a functional extruded thermoplastic top layer. In contrast
to a simple coating technology, it is intended that the
outer thermoplastic top layer does (a) mechanically lock
