composite bonding of primary
aircraft structures. Both technologies,
namely the hybrid bondline concept
that combines adhesive bonding
with thermoplastic welding and the
pinning approach as an out of plane
reinforcement, worked well for the
CLS tests in fatigue.
The
test
results
encourage
further research activities for
both technologies to gain a more
thoroughly understanding of the
working principles. Consequently,
subsequent studies will focus on
numerical investigations to derive
design guidelines for both features
which will allow implementation in
larger sub-component test structures
beyond the coupon level and with
other loading scenarios. The uniaxial material tests of the hybrid
bondline thermoplast as well as
the static strength tests for the
pins provide a data basis for those
numerical models.
