TOOLING TECHNOLOGIES FOR COMPOSITES
MANUFACTURING - A HANDS-ON WORKSHOP

This is SAMPE's 4th tooling technology forum, hands-on workshop and demonstration offering as a result of popular demand and
increased market applications involving tooling materials and methodology. The first day provides attendees with direct access
to speakers and their representing company's technologies which support tooling applications in many markets. Materials used
in tooling cover a wide range: metal and composite tooling, ceramic washout tooling, rubber tooling and rubber/elastomeric
bladders, smart tooling for shape-memory in complex-shaped parts, additive manufactured (AM) tools, C-Foam lightweight
tools and necessary prepreg systems and resins for composites. The second day offers both hands-on exercises for student
attendees, demonstration of first day speaker tooling and examples of tooling-material selection of laminated parts which reflect
spring-in, spring-out and potato chip effects often seen during processing. Table top displays available on the first day as well as
an evening presentation and dinner with the local SAMPE chapter.

ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING: DIVERSE
MATERIALS, PROCESSES AND APPLICATIONS -
SYMPOSIUM

Additive Manufacturing (AM) is fast becoming a leading technology across numerous markets and technological applications:
aerospace, automotive, alternative energy, commercial products, transportation, infrastructure and many others. Both the
materials involved, and, the processing technologies used to apply the various materials, covers a wide and diverse range. One
sees metals, plastics, polymers, resins and fibrous composites. Deposition-based applications see many terms such as CBAM
(Composite Based AM), BAAM (Big Area AM) which have become buzzwords in technology marketing. This symposium will bring
in speakers covering diverse technologies and their applications across various industries. Featuring leading companies in the
field of AM, coupled with two days of table top exhibits and a tour of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) Manufacturing
Development Facility, attendees will leave this symposium with a better understanding of AM and the potential it has now and
into the future.

AUTOMATED PLACEMENT MANUFACTURING
OF ADVANCED COMPOSITE STRUCTURES -
SYMPOSIUM

Advanced composites, typically carbon fiber, aramid fiber and combinations of these and others, provide unique structural
applications across numerous market segments. Applications cover tankage for launch vehicles, cryogenic tank applications,
deep-sea submersibles, aircraft structures (fuselages in particular), compressed natural gas (CNG) tanks, hydrogen tanks, and,
many others. Automation is key to rapid productivity, efficiency, and cost effectiveness with improved return on investment. This
seminar addresses the variety of automation technologies (automated tape laying, automated fiber placement, filament winding,
and others) which are now, more than ever, driving advanced composites manufacturing. Materials technologies (fibers, resins,
fiber forms, higher and lower temperature capabilities) are addressed across both the thermoset and thermoplastic matrix scale.
This symposium event, featuring key technology leaders and their companies within the advanced composites industry, also
features table top exhibits during this unique 2-day, intensive technology on automation coupled with advanced composite
structures.
