SCVMA DEI Action Plan

RESCUE CLINIC
From Lori Weise:
Great clinic today. I had several meaningful " thank you " comments
from families about the excellent quality of care that they
received at our clinic. Terrific team effort! I appreciate each and
every person who helped make this possible. Today, we provided
services to 63 cats and kittens and 167 dogs and puppies.
From Hawk:
Just wow! Teamwork is when you serve 230 animals in 2 hours
and volunteers say that it seemed like fewer animals than past
events! I witnessed a lot of direct engagement of owners from
volunteer veterinary teams and it was so appreciated. Thank you
for your commitment to supporting the human-animal bond.
There's no mistaking how very much the families love their pets.
The June DDR clinic has been canceled. The next DDR clinic
is scheduled for Sunday, July 10. To help please email,

CELEBRATION SPONSORSHIP
The SCVMA is committed to implementing inclusive practices
and celebrating diversity in our organization and the
veterinary profession. This action plan was developed by the
SCVMA Task Force on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and
approved by the SCVMA Board of Trustees. This action plan
is intended to be a dynamic document that will be reviewed
and updated bi-annually and shared with our members for
transparency and tracking of our progress.
* Provide DEI training of SCVMA Board of Trustees and
SCVMA staff, at the start of their term, by subject matter
experts in order to ensure that SCVMA leadership is culturally
competent and aligned with SCVMA's commitment to
diversity, equity and inclusion.
* Member profile articles in the PULSE magazine highlighting
veterinary professionals from underrepresented and
minority groups.
* Provide DEI CE at least twice annually.
* SCVMA Board of Trustees to complete AAVMC checklist to
determine where the association currently is on DEI matters
so that we may identify and correct inclusion and diversity
gaps within our organization.
* Member survey with demographic and gender spectrum
questions to identify the composition of the SCVMA
membership.
* Update SCVMA database to include ethnicity and gender spectrum,
while maintaining " prefer not to answer " option, to better
understand the composition of the SCVMA membership.
* Include optional ethnicity and gender spectrum questions
in CE/event registration.
* Increase SCVMA user engagement through social media to
be inclusive of all members.
* Intentionally connect underrepresented groups of veterinarians
and RVT members with students so that all youth in
our communities may see themselves in this profession.
* Review and sign #wakeupvetmed petition
* Connect with organizations to include, but not limited to,
PrideVMC, MCVMA, AAVMP, BlackDVM Network, NAVA,
NABV, LVMA, Indus Vet, SCFVMA, KVSA, and WVLDI
and offer links to these organizations on www.scvma.org
* Offer diverse CE speakers and sponsors to increase representation
and elevate underrepresented groups
* Add a DEI drop-down menu on www.scvma.org with links
to SCVMA DEI position statement, action plan (showing
completed, in process and planned actions) and resources.
* Review SCVMA policies and bylaws to ensure alignment
with the association's commitment to diversity and inclusion.
