Anxiously Waiting for Fall!

have to say that I have not seen such hot
weather for such a long period of time, this
late August into September! I realize that both
of those months are usually the hottest of the
year, but I think I believe that our ozone is
being depleted, as it has definitely been hotter
than ever. I am also still trying to decide
if it is because I am older and I just cannot
stand the heat like I used to be able to do. I
know our bodies acclimate to our surroundings
and temperatures, but I can honestly say,
that I cannot tolerate the heat for long periods
of time anymore.
I used to be such a sun goddess, laying out in the sun
either by the pool or at the beach, without an umbrella.
When I was younger, no one emphasized wearing sunscreen
as much as they do now, so I am sure I either was
wearing baby oil or nothing. My skin tanned mostly, but
initially I burned when I was out for the first time. I
cringe when I think of the repercussions- hence yearly
skin checks at the dermatologist. I also used to play
beach volleyball all day long, every weekend, without
flinching with fierce heat. I know I hydrated, but there
wasn't bottled water early on, and I really don't even
know how we stayed hydrated, except with soft drinks.
It was very dangerous, now that I think about it.
Now, my hours in the sun are limited to an hour
under an umbrella. If there is a pool, a definite dip is
needed, or if on the beach, a splash in the waves. But
this is not so much a complaint, as a desire to have the
best season of all, Autumn, here and soon! As I write
this, football season has begun, and I am inside in the air
conditioning watching my team play. I probably would
have tried to get tickets, but it's probably 95 in the stadium!
This is not Fall football weather. I cannot wait
until it's about 75 degrees with a crisp breeze and clear
skies. Then we all will be able to relax and be able to
enjoy the weather, without sweating and needing to be
in the A/C. I also had the largest electric bill I have ever
had in 18 years at my home, as I needed to keep the air
on continually, especially for my dog.
I can't wait to get in jeans and a sweater and go walking
at the beach, with no crowds in sight. I cannot wait
until Halloween, Thanksgiving and of course the rest
of the holidays coming up in December. It's time for
soup, cider, apple pie and all the other cozy, comforting
foods that we love to cook and eat. I went to the mall

the other day and saw the prettiest sweaters and jeans and
jackets, but could not even stand to try them on, as it
was 95 degrees outside. It is like this every year, but it
still bothers me that they have those clothes out before
it's cold enough to wear them. I can't wait to get all
bundled up to go to a football game and not bake in the
stands.
I am sure that we have at least another month of this
warm weather, before we actually get some relief. I am
sure I can handle it, as it is not the end of the world. You
will probably see me writing in late February, that it is
too cold and rainy and I cannot wait for it to be summer
again. That is what happens with having four seasons -
you are always anticipating what you don't have at the
time. It's human nature and everyone has their favorite
time of year. I would say I need to just enjoy the time
we are in, but then I wouldn't have anything to look forward
to next! P
