'm taking a little break from this month's usual Executive Director page. Instead, I thought
I'd capitalize on the cat focus of this issue and share a few thoughts about this animal that
is so beloved by internet users everywhere but, somehow, still not prioritized when it comes to
owners seeking veterinary care.
These amusing little jerks like to steal our hearts and then knock everything off the counters.
They barely acknowledge us during the day and then go bonkers at three in the morning.
I've been in veterinary forums where a member asks how best to keep a cat off the counter
and nearly all the responses are something akin to, " this is your life now. " We accept that cats
are our masters and not the other way around.
During COVID, like many, I found myself doomscrolling and, not surprisingly, feeling
depressed. Until one day I came across a social media page intended to only brighten one's
day. Over time, I started to follow similarly themed pages so my feed would fill with amusing
and happy information rather than stuff that would bring me down. And, as you may have
guessed, many of those were cat related pages. Here are my curated recommended mood
enhancing cat focused social media pages:
THIS CAT IS P H O T O S H O P P E D
Yes, it's actually spelled that way with all the spaces. This page is for serious cat lovers and
photoshoppers. Members post a photo of their cat in a strange (well, not for a cat) position.
Clever shoppers then photoshop said cat in various scenarios. A cat leaping in the air may
be shopped into the ballet or an Olympic track event. I have yet to see a negative comment
posted.
The Kiffness
This is just a guy who receives videos of cats making weird sounds which he then morphs
into a song. Yeah, it's weird. But also, so bad it's good. In a crazy cat sort of way.
Fat Cat Art
As best as I can tell, it's usually the same obese cat, placed in many art photos. And there is
other fat cat content. I know I'm supposed to advocate for weight loss. But I do love a heckin'
chonker.
Accidental Renaissance Cats
This page is replete with photos of cats in positions similar to Michelangelo's " The Creation " .
Or maybe just a cat near a bowl of well posed fruit.
All orange cats share 1 brain cell
A page for orange tabby cats and flame points with many wondering who has the elusive
brain cell.
Honestly, all one has to do is type cat in the search function or start with one of these
social media pages and you can find yourself going down the rabbit hole of crazy cat pages.
Some are a bit mundane where others are downright hilarious. There is a whole slew of " This
cat is... " pages. This Cat is C H O N K Y. This Cat is assembled I N C O R R E C T L Y.
This cat is OSHA COMPLIANT. You get the idea. There are pages for voids (aka black
cats), pages for obese cats, and pages for cats in, ahem, revealing poses (This cat is L E W D).
So, feel free to take a stroll down the internet and view silly photos, memes, and videos of
cats. It will be the most non-productive time you've had in a long time and well worth it. P
