Dogs, Cats Not Likely
To Get Sick from Mpox
People with an mpox infection are unlikely
to pass along the virus to their pet dogs
and cats, researchers reported in the Center
for Disease Control and Prevention's
Emerging Infectious Diseases publication.
Mpox virus DNA was found in swab
samples from four dogs and one cat, but
none of the animals showed signs of illness,
and further testing revealed that the positive
swabs were probably contaminated by
people with mpox.

Baby Antelope to Minn.
Marcie the baby pronghorn antelope's
story began with a human Marcie at Washington
State University. The four-legged
Marcie, recovered in Pullman, Washington,
is now living at the Minnesota Zoo.
Little Marcie was not able to keep up with
her herd, and antelopes her age tend to
stay hidden, waiting for their parents to
come feed them, said Marcie Logsdon,
WSU veterinarian in the exotics and wildlife
department.
While the baby waited to be fed, a dog
picked her up and took her to its owners,
Logsdon said. The family who found the
antelope tried to reunite her with her
family before taking her to WSU early
this summer.
When Logsdon realized the antelope was
not going to be reunited with her family,
she also knew releasing her back into the
wild wasn't the best option. While a lot of
animals are capable of reacclimating to their
natural habitat, Marcie was still too young.
So WSU veterinarians worked to relocate
her to the Minnesota Zoo in June. The initial
plan was to fly the antelope across the
country, but the only option was to put
her in cargo, which would have been too
stressful. So instead, Logsdon drove her to
Minnesota with a college friend.
Scottsdale Tops List
Of Pet-Friendly Cities
The personal finance company WalletHub

has named Scottsdale, Arizona, the petfriendliest
city in the country. Coming in
second and third were Tampa, Florida., and
Las Vegas, Nevada.
Veterinary care costs and accessibility, park
availability and walkability were among
metrics used by researchers for the company
to compare and `rank` data of 100
largest cities in the country.
" The most pet-friendly cities aren't just
those where it's cheapest to own an animal
and take care of its health, although
cost is definitely a major consideration, "
says Cassandra Happe, WalletHub analyst.
" Many factors contribute to a good
environment for pets, from the availability
of vets and pet-friendly stores to the
prevalence of parks and how walkable
each city is. "

Clinic's Garden Helps
Clients Grieve Their Pets
A memorial garden welcomes Dallas-Fort
Worth area pet owners to bring collars,
name tags, or other mementos to honor
pets that have died.
Providing care through a pet's entire life
cycle-from beginning to end-is central
to the new initiative of an animal hospital
in Arlington, Texas.
Built by NVA's I-20 Animal Medical Center,
the Rainbow Bridge Memorial Garden is
designed to " provide solace and remembrance "
for community members grieving
the loss of a pet. Visitors are allowed
to bring collars, name tags, or other
mementos to memorialize four-legged
companions.
" We built this bridge and garden to help
the community remember their own fourlegged
family members that left them too
soon, " says Glen Coolman, I-20's hospital
administrator.
" The loss of a pet can be just as difficult as
losing any other family member, yet many
pet parents don't have a place to grieve
and sometimes no one else to grieve with.
We built this memorial to provide comfort
during those difficult times and remember
those they loved. " P
