SCVMA STATEMENT ON
ANTI-ASIAN RACISM

A PUPPY'S
PERSPECTIVE

At its March 31 Board of Trustees meeting, the SCVMA Board unanimously approved the
following statement to be shared with the membership:

Rescue clinic:

The past year has been very stressful for a multitude of reasons that are out of our control. Concurrently, there has been an epidemic of racist activities touching all of our lives
in some way, shape or form.
As one of the most diverse veterinary medical associations, last year the SCVMA issued
a statement condemning racism and encouraged an anti-racist position by our members.
The actions last year against people of color has extended to the current significant antiAsian racist behaviors.
The SCVMA encourages all of our members to be sensitive to the diversity of the communities in which we have businesses, to the diversity of the population from which we
hire and to the diversity of the pet owners who visit our practices.
Our role in one health should extend to one people where people of different color, different religion, different sexual orientation or even different financial wherewithal should
not be discriminated against or subjected to racist behaviors by our profession.
Let us stand together as one profession supporting the needs of our members, our clients and the patients for whom we care without bias or discrimination.
Unanimously approved by the SCVMA Board of Trustees, March 31, 2021.

During the past year of the pandemic, we
have seen many new puppies adopted.
What can we learn from a puppy's
perspective?
1. Always wag your tail! OK, we can't
wag our tails...but let your family and
friends know that you're happy to be
with them!
2. Be the mantra: " Good Boy! or Good Girl! "
