Committee Reports From the very insightful dialogue and perspectives engaged in, below are thematic summaries and statistics for each affinity space: Interfaith * Great dialogue on fighting against "Christians are bad" * Encouraging people to talk about faith (unapologetically and authentically) * Take time to pause and process your peace * Don't stray from the difficulty these types of conversations may foster * Thinking about how to evangelize from the perspectives of others * Considering on how not to conform but still meet people where they are 5 attendees LGBTQIA+ * Discussed campus climates for openly gay professionals * The search process as a professional and where being gay falls with that * Discussion around how our identities do not define us (Example: Just because you are a "token Black Gay Professional" does not mean it needs to be explicitly mentioned repeatedly in various spaces) 10 attendees Ally * Discussion around allyship being action and sacrifice based * Allyship is an identity that you are given and cannot self-proclaim * Discussion on supporting LGBTQIA+ students at a HBCU * Navigating the environment and a grassroots cultural shift from the entry level and mid-level professional scope * Difference between hiring "qualified Resident Assistants/Advisors (RAs)" into identity-based themed communities versus RAs that identify with that community and how powerful it is when you have a staff member that identifies with the community leading it * Discussed how Chief Housing Officers (CHOs) can support fellow CHOs to bring inclusive conversations to campus and truly make change 9 attendees POC * Discussed the topic of relationships (love and children) in the context of living on campus * Frustration with allies not joining the conversation for this affinity space * Voiced need for DEI to push for more incorporation of SEAHO members that not identify as a POC to continue the fight and act as allies and a need to advocate for more inclusivity among SEAHO membership * Voiced need for DEI to continue to fight the DEI fight but bring along allies so our fight does not look like it is only for POC * Voiced the need to be more inclusive and move pass the diversity headcount 14 attendees These were exceptional spaces where the dialogue discussed spilled over into other spaces and hopefully have continued since our together in Biloxi. We are a field of professionals where we serve with purpose on purpose. As we continue to unpack and relearn the many intersecting ideas, identities, and heard to silenced narratives, let's remember to continue to reach into the unknown so that we all may be better together because of the collective to individual work we are investing in ourselves and others.
