partnership within the Live in Motion LLC at Lakeside provides opportunities
for residents to gain a better understanding of the RecSports Department and
what is provided at the Southwest Recreational Facility. From learning about
on-campus student employment with the department to possibly gaining a
future professional passon within student recreation in student affairs, residents
have the chance to make a positive impact on their professional future both
short and long term.
It also helps them make decisions that will benefit their personal health in the
future. The brain benefits from exercise by increasing production of neurochemicals that promote brain cell repair, improving memory, lengthening attention span, boosting decision-making skills, prompting growth of new nerve cells
and blood vessels, and improving multi-tasking and planning. To summarize,
exercise and being active translates to better academic performance and room
for developing the skills needed to be successful in the professional world.

SEAHO 2018 Educational Grant Winner:
Res Life Experience Trips

At Columbus State University Residence Life, We encourage residents to establish meaningful connections with peers by becoming actively involved in the
shaping of their residential, campus, and citywide communities. We started the
ResLife Experience Trips to help with those connections. Residents are be encouraged to discover experiences outside the classroom setting that will expand
their knowledge and perceptions beyond their individual considerations.
Each year we take suggestions from residents, student staff, and RHA members
on experience trips they would be interested in attending.
We currently offer eight trips a year with each trip offering a fun and educational component. The off-campus experience offers students both availability and
convenience, and provides students the opportunity for more student and staff
interaction, enhancing learning, social skills, and personal growth.
We announce all the trips at the beginning of fall semester. A month before each
trip we send out a link via email so that everyone has the same opportunity to
sign up for the trip. The trips are a sought after adventure and spots fill up very
fast.
A few examples of trips we have taken are:
* Night at the Zoo Atlanta - Students were able to get an after-hours, behind-the-scenes tour of Zoo Atlanta. They explored career opportunities within the zoo, conservation programs, and slept in indoor facility
with some of the animals that call the zoo home. The next morning
they could explore the zoo in the daylight as well.
