Alabama Updates
Auburn University at Montgomery
Auburn University at Montgomery has had a great
Spring semester and we're looking forward to Summer!
We're proud to welcome our new Area Coordinator,
Chasity Sanders, to the AUM Housing family. Chasity has been with Housing for many years, starting as
a desk assistant and then rising through the ranks to
Resident Assistant, Residence Life Coordinator, and
now Area Coordinator. Chasity was the recipient of
the Alabama Association of Housing Officers Service
Award in 2017. She is a wealth of knowledge and skill
and we're overjoyed to have her on the team.
Housing and Residence Life firmly believes that education happens in more places than the classroom, and is
committed to providing programming which encourages open discussion and honest conversation. Our
celebrated Hot Topics Café series, which hands the microphone to students on controversial topics has been
more popular than ever. Our most popular Hot Topics
Café event, "Black in America," was on February 28th,
and debuted to our highest attendance ever.
AUM has also recently completed a transition to
using Maxient for university conduct cases, which
has improved our university conduct, advocacy, and
Title IX processes immensely. Various offices can now
coordinate quickly and efficiently to share information,
coordinate interventions, and implement safety plans
across university offices.
Auburn University
Auburn University Housing is excited to welcome our
three newest Area Coordinators. Ellori White joins us
from Savannah State University, and also previously
worked as a Graduate Assistant at Jacksonville State
University. Emily Scarpa previously served as both a
Resident Assistant and Graduate Area Coordinator at
Auburn University. Finally, we welcome Leron Burge
to the SEAHO region, he joins us from the University
of Toledo. We will enthusiastically welcome more new
staff members in the Fall as we introduce an additional Graduate Area Coordinator and Area Coordinator
position. Auburn Housing is also looking forward to
participating in this year's RELI conference. Dr. Kevin
Hoult, Director of Housing and Residence Life, will

serve as a faculty member. Ellori White, Area Coordinator, was recently selected as a participant.
This year marks the second annual Creed Week at Auburn, a week dedicated to living out the Auburn Creed.
Four of our student staff members- Gina Maddaloni,
Laura Minton, Camila Sabogal-Mateus, and Chapin
Smith- were nominated for the Be the Creed Award
for embodying the values set forth in the Auburn
Creed.

Auburn University Housing also celebrated Creed
Week by lending a helping hand to our neighbors
at JSU as they continue their clean up and recovery
efforts.
University of North Alabama
UNA underwent a departmental merger (University Residences and Department of Housing Facilities
Management became Housing & Residence Life)
beginning February 2017, but this was not implemented administratively until September 1st. Our department is adding a Global Learning Community for Fall
2018. This is a partnership between Academic Affairs,
International Affairs, and Housing & Residence Life.
We are also working to create an athletic community as
University of North Alabama transitions to Division I
this fall.
We have welcomed new hires and reassigned positions
in our department. Jennifer Sutton is the Director
Housing & Residence Life. Jami Flippo is the Assistant Director of Residence Life. Jayson Jackson is the
Housing Facilities Coordinator / Apartment Manager.
