UGA staff member for their dedication to service and
importance to the university. Proceeds from the BFSO
luncheon are used for activities and a scholarship
program, which awards scholarships to outstanding
undergraduate, graduate and professional students at
UGA.

Mississippi Updates

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College
MGCCC's construction of a new residence hall
and cafeteria is nearing completion. The estimated
timeframe is projected for the mid-Spring semester.
The cafeteria will be used as normal upon completion,
and the residence hall will welcome students in August
2020.
University of Southern Mississippi
The University of Southern Mississippi has two
newly hired Residence Life Coordinators. Tuyetnhi
Nyugen is the new RLC for Scott hall and Jennifer
Thornton is the new RLC for Wilber hall. We have
one opening for the RLC position, which will oversee
Hattiesburg and Mississippi halls and Cedarbrook II
apartments. Cedarbrook II apartments is our newest
addition to undergraduate housing for seniors only
starting spring 2020. USM is proud to be hosting more
of the incoming first year class, 86% of all new first
year students chose to live on campus this year!

Selma Newbill: USM Resident Assistant
Selma has been given the honor of being a Forbes
Under 30 Scholar, selected into this phenomenal cohort
by Forbes and their selection committee. She will
37

be joining the best young
leaders, founders, and
creators for a life-changing
four days of connecting,
learning, teaching, and
building in Detroit,
Michigan. The 2019 Forbes
Under 30 Summit is more
an immersive experience
than a static conference:
a private music festival, A-list speakers like Serena
Williams, investor speed-pitching, industry-focused
field trips, a world-famous food festival and a powerful
day of community service. In Detroit, she will have the
opportunity to be a part of a business community that
drives the world. Entrepreneurs in the region are laying
the foundation for the next generation of commerce,
reshaping existing industries and forging new ones-
from agtech to fintech, autonomous vehicles to
alternative energy, and every space in-between, and
Selma will have an opportunity to be a part of that
community. She is thankful that Res Life has supported
her throughout her time as a Desk Assistant and as a
Resident Assistant.
