SEAHO Report - Spring 2019 - 4

SEAHO President
Dear SEAHO Friends,
I am excited to share my first message with all of you as SEAHO President. It
is hard to believe that a little over a month ago we were spending time together
at SEAHO 2019 in Jacksonville, FL. This conference marked our 55th annual
conference as an association. Ready, Set, SEAHO brought all of us together for
a conference of learning, networking, and developing. I would like to give one
last note of appreciation to Dei Allard and her entire 2019 Host Committee.
The work of this group is a labor of love and it is clear that they care greatly
about SEAHO. I would also like to give special thanks to Chandra Myrick
and all of her work as President this past year. Our association has been made
better because of her commitment, strength, and dedication.
There has been a great deal of successes from the past year in SEAHO:
* We signed a new two year SAACURH and SEAHO Statement of Understanding which continues to clarify
our relationship to SAACURH and their relationship to SEAHO.
* Our SEAHO member needs assessment executive summary was presented to membership during the
business meeting. This document will assist in setting the foundation for our future SEAHO 2020-2025
strategic plan.
* SEAHO continues to show a level of giving and commitment to development that is humbling. Our
membership raised over $19,000 on behalf of the ACUHO-I Foundation and the SEAHO Legacy Fund
Endowment. SEAHO will help fund up to $8,300 in scholarships for ACUHO-I events, including four
confirmed scholarships for the 2019 James C. Grimm National Housing Training Institute.
* We recognized the great work of our members at the annual SEAHO Awards Ceremony. Please check out
the list of recipients in this issue of the SEAHO report and take a moment to give them a call or send them
an email of congratulations.
* Our organization elected new officers into the Executive Board from a very talented slate of Candidates.
Please join me in congratulating Nyerere Tryman as President-Elect, Shylan Scott as Treasurer, and Jeannie
Hopper as Director of Committees. Additionally, Jacob McAbee was appointed as the new SEAHO
Technology Coordinator.
* We have wrapped up our SEAHO 2014-2019 strategic plan as an association. The document has helped
guide us over the past five years and will continue to guide us as we put together a new SEAHO strategic
plan.
These successes continue to prove the strong dedication of our SEAHO membership. This summer the
Executive Board will meet in Richmond, VA to review our goals for the coming year and our continued
pursuit of meeting the needs of the association. As we all work to close out Spring 2019 on our individual
campuses, I want to take a moment to share some exciting updates with all of you. We have some engaging
initiatives in store for 2019-2020:
* Congratulations to University of South Carolina as they look toward hosting their final year as RELI site
host. Many thanks to the hard work of their staff as they have made our RELI Faculty and Participants
feel welcomed this past year. I am also excited to give recognition to The University of Miami and their
successful bid as the future site for RELI 2020, 2021, and 2022.
* Three task forces have been formed and are beginning their work for the association. These task forces
include SEAHO Website, Technology, and Communication Task Force chaired by Kaila Kowalski; SEAHO
Placement Task Force chaired by Kat Mortensen; and SEAHO Structure Task Force chaired by Megan
Becker. The Task Force Charges can be found on our website https://www.seaho.org/page/task_forces.
These three groups have been asked to provide preliminary reports to the SEAHO Executive Board by
October 2, 2019.
